@p666666

The people that are most likely to go to them are the emotionally vulnerable, I think. Scientology usually recruits through stress tests and personality tests. This personality test consists of a hundred questions or so, and regardless of the result, Scientology tells them they are a truly messed up individual and only Scientology can help. In some of the extreme instances, they even said that if they don't take Scientology, they will kill themselves later in life.

Kaja Ballo (you can google her if you like) was a depressed girl in Norway who decided to take a personality test. When she scored horribly (everybody scores bad - the test is rigged to fail), she committed suicide.

This is one of the many reasons why I protest the Church of Scientology. People around the world have been involved in global monthly protests because the world isn't paying enough attention to how despicable the management of this organization is.

@p666666
Why are they legal? That's a question myself and many other critics have been asking ourselves repeatedly. It's a combination of things, I think. Scare tactics, and a strong legal team. Did you know that their tax exempt status was revoked in the US for a time, but it was given back to them in 1993. Scientology filed 2,500 lawsuits against the IRS, and even had private investigators dig up dirt on IRS officials. It was essentially "blackmail" that got them what they wanted.

p666666, everything I'm telling you right now, I had to dig up on the internet myself, so please don't take my word on everything I say.

I have come to the conclusion that the Church of Scientology is the most corrupt system in the world and has to be stopped. People have the right to believe what they want, so my issue is not about their beliefs. My issue is about the corruption of Scientology's management, and a major goal of ours is to have the US revoke their tax exempt status.

I'll try. Tax exempt status just means they don't have to pay taxes the same way businesses are taxed based on their income. The Church of Scientology has convinced the IRS (possibly through blackmail) that Scientology qualifies as a non-profit organization so they should not have to pay taxes. This will take a few comments, but I'll elaborate on how it was done.

The Church of Scientology adopted a "hardball" campaign vs the IRS during the 1980s and early 1990s, which exerted maximum pressure vs the IRS. None of the following is disputed by Scientology officials and some of it was boasted about by David Miscavige in his October 1993 speech:
- The IRS and its individual officers were sued for $128m.
- 2,500 lawsuits were launched vs the IRS.
- Private detectives were employed to find out what "crimes" IRS officials were guilty of in their private lives.

In 1967, the IRS stripped all United States-based Scientology entities of their tax exemption, declaring Scientology's activities were commercial and operated for the benefit of L. Ron Hubbard. The church sued and lost repeatedly for 26 years trying to regain its tax-exempt status.

The case was eventually settled in 1993, after the church paid $12.5 million, a fraction what the IRS had been claiming to cover more than 30 years of church operation including interest.
